Iron & Wine

I came across this recording of an Iron & Wine concert in Paradiso at the beginning of this year. It blew me away it’s so good. Check it out!

Marley & Me & Murphy & Me

Since I wasn’t getting any further with Pride & Prejudice I decided to pick up Marley & Me again so that I’d at least keep my 1 book a month quota up ;) . I started with Marley & me a whiiile back. I heard so many great things about it. It was said that every dog lover just had to read this book!

I thought it was a big disappointment. I think it’s mostly because the way they raise their dog is the complete opposite of how I learned to raise a dog. And of course, as everyone, I think the way I learned it is the only good way ;) .

I think dog owners a very critical at one another though. But it’s just because we want every dog to be treated right I guess. I don’t want to say they treated the dog in the book wrong though. Not at all. It’s just that there are so many ways to deal with certain ‘habits’ and lets just say I would have done some things differently.

Aside from that I did enjoy the book. Some things are of course very recognizable. The destruction, the not listening to you at all and of course the love that you can’t help but feel for your dog. I did have to bite back my tears in the end. It’s hard to read about a dog’s last years/months, because it makes you realize that’s is going to happen, inevitably, with your own dog as well. Murphy is only 2,5, but some day he too will be an old dog and when his end comes I already know it will break my heart. Let’s just hope it won’t be till long!!

May 2008 (yup, it still fits)

July 2008

I’m a model!

As if. For a second there I felt like one though. Last monday when I was bringing back groceries for my work, I hardly had time to step inside to hide from the rain before my boss told me I had to ran straight to the photographer across the street to get my pictures taken. Wha??? Pictures? Me? WHY????

This is why:

Those are my co-workers. But it’s outdated so we needed new pics. Here’s my wonderful (ahum) addition. (Of course they couldn’t wait till I had my breath back from running in the rain.)

I wonder which one they’ll pick.

They also had to make pictures of me from each direction just in case we’re going to use them for promotional material. They look like jail shots ghehe.

Ayhoo, in the end he also made a nice pic for myself to keep (i’m actually not even sure I’m allowed to post the previous ones up here. Oh well, it’s not like they’ll read it..).

Cruz

Something made me think of this today.

I’m leaving today
Living it, leaving it to change

Slowly drifting into a peaceful breeze
Tongue tied and twisted
Are all my memories
Celebrating a fantasy come true
Packing all my bags finally on the move

I’m leaving today, I’m living it
Oh I’m leaving it to change

As I’m driving
I’m captured by the view
So much beauty
The road becomes my muse
The heat is rising
And my hand surfs through the wind
Cool, calm, collected
Is the child that lies within

See I’m leaving today, I’m living it
Oh I’m leaving it
To change, oh yeah

See I’m leaving today, oh yes I’m
Living it, oh I’m leaving it
To change

But somehow I miss it
I think I’ll really miss it
One day, ohh

I turn up the radio
And I’m feeling like I’ve never felt before
Turn down the memories of
Yesteryears and broken dreams I bring
Finally free, ooh

Slowly drifting
Into a peaceful breeze, oh

Ooh yeah
I’m leaving today, oh yes I’m
Living it, oh yeah
Leaving it to change
To change, oh no

See I’m leaving today, oh yes I’m
Living it, living it
Leaving it, leaving to change
Ohh oh

I’m leaving today, oh I’m living it
I’m leaving it to change
Living it, to change
Leaving it to change
Ooh, oh yeah

Living it, leaving it, said I’m living it
I’m leaving it
Living it, leaving it to change
I’m leaving it to change

But somehow I miss it
I think I’ll really miss it
One day, yeah

Motion Picture Sunday

I watched J’eux d’enfants and Hancock this week. I also started watching Into the Wild, but I got disrupted halfway through so now I have to get into it again :s. I liked what I saw so far though.

It’s been all about the French lately. Last week it was Amelie and this week J’eux d’enfants. Of course I had already seen the latter, but I saw Amelie for the first time. I thought it was magnifique! The French do really have a unique style of film making. Or at least the ones that made these films do. I’m sure they also make a lot of rubbish in France that we just don’t get to see ;) .

And we go from France straight to the US with Hancock. World of difference. But not less enjoyable.

I really liked it! It was fun to go out with the gals again. We went with the cinema crew. Well, past-cinema-crew, since only one of us still works there. Anywayyy, I really liked the movie. Lots of great action and I actually liked Will Smith in this one (although I could have done with another picture for the poster). And who knew Charlize Theron is in it? Kind of weird to have an Oscar winning actress in a film and not have her on the poster or anything for promotion. Good movie though. And nice element of surprise in there!! Didn’t see it coming. At all! If you feel like watching an entertaining action flick I definitely recommend watching it. Preferably at the cinema ;) .

I’m really looking forward to Batman The Dark Knight next week. Although I’m afraid it may disappoint; after all the raving reviews I’ve read my expectations may be too high.

A Dog’s Life

Last week I think Murphy tried to tell me that he needs more attention. He did this by being as crazy as possible.

It started with him trying to find a new comfy spot in the house. A place where he can relax and enjoy the view. A place where he doesn’t have to worry about sitting in someone elses seat. A place where only he would sit.

Only after I explained to him that how good a seat that may seem, people might confuse him with a nice meal and eat him. He quietly went back to his regular spot. But not without looking so sad that I almost carried him back to the coffee table.

The next evening he felt as if I needed some training. He’s used to me thinking for him, but as I was aimlessly walking around with him I forgot and he took advantage. He immediately found a way to make me look like a fool in the middle of the street in the middle of the night.

You see. Murphy doesnt’ like to do his poopoo where anyone can see him. So instead of doing it on the grass next to the path like normal dogs would. He goes through the bushes to the grass on the other end so he can enjoy a little privacy. Normally this goes very smooth, as long as I gently navigate him back to the spot in the bushes where he went in, to come out. But as I said.. I wasn’t paying attention and he knew it! He walked 2 meters to the left and went back into the bushes. Except.. the leash only went that far and he ended up stuck right in the middle of the bushes. Now what to do? Let’s just say my night ended in saving a dog from the bushes, having my leash fly into the bushes. Me searching for the leash on hand and knees inside the bushes. Murphy laughing at me. Me giving up.

I triumphed the next morning though by waking him with the leash in hand :D . He still doesn’t understand how I got it back. Believe me, nobody wants to know.

After my little victory he’s been a good little dog. He actually learned 3 new tricks. (Thanks mom!.) He learned ‘high five’, ‘lay dead’ and the one that fits him most ‘be tired’. With the last one he putts his head on his feet as if he is ready to fall asleep.  Maybe I’ll putt some movies up of Murphy’s stunts later.

Farewell D4

It’s official. I signed today. Dynamic4 is no longer mine. I handed it over to Maarten. I hope it brings him fortune :) . We started Dynamic4 in September 2005. And we did pretty good! But all things must come to an end and webdesign just isn’t my thing. Not anymore.

It still feels kind of weird though.

I came up with Dynamic4 after I worked together with Shini, Maarten and Richard on a website for a business that I was trying to launch. I thought we could make a good team making websites for other people. In the end it was Maarten and me who registered the business but Shini was just as much a part of it from the beginning. And Richard.. he just hopped in and out of it I guess.

I can remember thinking of names for hours! Then I woke up one night with DYNAMIC4!!.. I thought we could make Dynamic4Design, Dynamic4Hosting, Dynamic4YOU. Et cetera.

I’m still not sure if it was ever the right name, it’s kind of weird with the 4 at the end, but I think it suits it somehow. Then the next step was the logo. I can’t even remember how I came up with it, but Shini made it look even better than how I saw it in my head :D .

Thank you Maarten and Shini for starting this ride with me. And good luck with the road that’s ahead for you guys!

Working bee

I feel like a workaholic. Which is a really weird feeling for a lazy person like me. It has been really hectic at work this week and in the evenings I’ve been working on that idea of mine. There’s just no room for fun stuff like movies anymore!

…..

I have absolutely nothing to write about. I did not do one interesting thing this week.

I have plans tomorrow though. I’m going to see Death Cab for Cutie in concert. Or not. I’d have to go alone, cause the only person I know who likes them can’t go :( . I REALLLLLLY want to see them live though. So… I’ll just have to be independent and fearless and go all by myself! To scary Amsterdam.. At night… Help!

Dancing Queen

Since I professed my love for the series So You Think You Can Dance I might as well share some of my favorite performances.

B-Boy Gev AMAZING!!!

Mia Michaels is a choreographer on the show for contemporary dance (before I started watching SYTYCD I didn’t even know that was a dance genre) and the dances she creates are INCREDIBLE. Like this one:

Katee & Joshua

Reality check.

To me having a webdesign company for almost 3 years with someone and then not to have that someone want to make a website for me, even for pay, is very ironic.

So.. anyone familiar with PHP and looking for a job?
